Gondwana was an ancient supercontinent that broke up about 180 million years ago. The continent eventually split into Africa, South America, Australia, Antarctica, the Indian subcontinent and the Arabian Peninsula. Australia broke away about 45 million years ago... About 30 million years ago the Australian marsupials evolved from their possum ancestors.
This artwork reveals the diverse palette of Pennisetum Setaceum, commonly known as Fountain Grass. This material is used to show different colour shades of the possum's fur: the dark shades of the tail and the stripes of the face; the brown shades of the head, face, paws, and the back; the light shades near the front of the neck. It is amazing how just one plant material can offer such a rich palette!
The light coloured parts of the face (nose and cheeks) are done with Lagurus Ovatus (common name is Bunnytail).
